Steinbrenner High school is had their annual homecoming dance for the first time in two years due to COVID-19. For many students this was the first dance that they get to attend, and there was a lot of confusion about what dress code to follow.

According to the Hillsborough County dress code, dresses that have cut-outs, are backless, and show your midriff are not allowed to be worn. These rules came out after a lot of students had already bought their dresses, and it caused them problems because they did not fit the criteria.

“I was really upset because I loved the dress I originally picked out,” said sophomore Christina James. “It was really inconvenient because I had to spend more money and find time to go shopping again.”

In addition to the county restrictions, the theme for the dance was masquerade. That usually means everyone wears a mask over their eyes. They can add a great touch to someone’s outfit and add a lot of personality.

However, it was never really made clear to students attending if they were allowed to wear these eye masks. Sophomore senator Lily Sinclair explains what students could wear to the dance.

“Masks will be allowed once at the dance, and senate is providing them for students who want to take pictures with them once they enter,” says Sinclair.

Being able to wear masks is something students are really looking forward to. Many have already made plans to coordinate with their group of friends and get tons of pictures wearing them. Students were able to really match the theme of the dance.

“I think wearing a masquerade mask will be something different and new for homecoming,” said sophomore Allie McDowell. “It will be really exciting to see what styles everyone chooses

These masks can be easy to find. A lot of people looked at stores like Target and Party City and even online shops like Amazon, which were shipped to people’s houses in a matter of days.

Overall, the dance dress code was very unclear, but now it is certain that everyone could dress up and have fun wearing masquerade masks.
