Steinbrenner Middle School Band Night is a long-standing tradition that keeps the band and color guard excited for this special Friday night. It consists of a pregame performance with the band and Sensations dance team from Martinez Middle School, following the regularly scheduled pink out football game. This performance involves much preparation to make sure everything goes smoothly.

“We dedicate a three-hour practice before the football game to teaching the middle school dance team our pom routine. A middle school band rehearsal includes team bonding, assigning bigs and littles, and teaching our stand dances to music,” senior Sophia Aspinall said, a member of the Steinbrenner color guard.

This kind of opportunity for middle schoolers can be very beneficial, especially if they’re in 8th grade. Plus, the band and color guard can recruit new members for next year, while enjoying an entertaining football game!

“I love getting to meet the possible future freshman and get to know their personalities and abilities. [Also] how many people we will have next year after the seniors leave,” said sophomore Riley Sheehan, a member of our beloved Steinbrenner band.

Compared to the color guard, the band has a similar rehearsal schedule.

“We practice for band night right before the game. A rehearsal looks like us doing our normality’s, and fitting [the middle schoolers] into what we do and showing them how to do our traditions,” said Sheehan.

Middle school band night consists of a lot of sharing the personal traditions and activities the band and color guard do for a football game to go smoothly for them. The high schoolers adding the young middle schoolers can be very helpful to them.

“We hope to provide the middle schoolers with an exciting experience of a high school football game and include them in our pom routines and traditions,” said Aspinall.

Clearly a fun night like this can get the future of the Steinbrenner color guard and band excited to come to high school, seeing as they are already familiar with how things are run. The student section was excited about it too and the performance led the game with a strong start which got everyone there hyped up.
