Everyone loves the notorious Addams family. With their 1991 live action film, television series, a 2019 animation movie and now a sequel that recently came out on October 1st 2021, the group has become immensely popular over the years. By kicking off at the start of fall with this comedic family, people at all ages can easily get in the mood for the Halloween season.

The Addams Family 2 is a hilarious, family friendly, action film which follows the family on their first road trip. It focuses on Wednesday Addams, as her father Gomez believes she’s growing distant from the rest of the family. This sudden adventure to grow closer together contrasts from their usual creepy, wooden, gothic mansion scenery. They go all over the United States, from the expected Death Valley, to maybe the unexpected, such as a sunny Miami beach. They travel in a hurry as a mysterious man and his goon is sent after them to capture Wednesday for an unknown reason. The film also deals with the struggle of fitting in throughout, which can set a model for the young kids watching.

The sibling dynamic of Wednesday and Pugsley is always adored and goes well with Wednesday’s morbid humor as well. This sequel also features Snoop Dog as Cousin It, and adds in a main character musical sequence where he raps at the end. This really pulls the whole narrative and character of It together. The story line also fits well and was well put together, not leaving any holes in the plot.

The voice actors of every family member did such an amazing job embodying the character and bringing the animation to life.

The media has reacted in several different ways, some saying that this film moves away from the usual kooky family and doesn’t make them feel notably different than the “normal” humans around them. But others love it and believe it’s a smash hit and well-rounded compared to the previously released content of the Addams family.  The mysterious Wednesday Addams also takes on a wardrobe change out of her iconic black collared dress into a white lab coat. But keeps that dark aesthetic by pairing a black turtleneck underneath it.

Overall, The Addams Family 2 is close in everyone’s hearts and continues to follow their unique family dynamic even in a change of scenery. Giving it a rating of 9/10, anyone that’s been a fan since the beginning and newer, younger fans can easily grow fond of them and relate to their craziness.
