The Steinbrenner swim team takes on Jesuit, Plant and many more schools in a relay race on September 10, bringing home third place in both boys and girls. Although they didn’t finish first, the team kept smiles on their faces and excitement in their bodies. The team was ready to face the others and produced a series of cheers and they chanted on the sides as the others competed against each other. With their creative theme and cheers, the warriors were ready to face the other schools.

The swimmers dressed up using a fun luau theme for their team spirit. All the warriors took part in dressing up for the event showing up in: Hawaiian shirts, leis and beads. As the day went on the students kept up their spirits while competing against the other schools. However, the warriors were not able to top Strawberry Crests High School’s Strawberry costume. The costumes were very creative and brought up some competition between the schools on who had the most school spirit. The spirit award was something the team was super excited about and although they did not win the experience was enjoyable and fun.

“We did not win the spirit award, which was disappointing because we all dressed up, we even decorated the tent, we lost only because of the giant strawberry. Literally every time we had a new race our entire team would get up and cheer,” said Sophomore Cora Anderson.

The luau brings on a competition of cheering between the teams as they support their fellow teammates. The constant cheering brought up the warrior’s spirits. The team spirit was through the roof as their fellow teammates yelled from the stands. A full-on battle between the schools broke out as they each tried to be the loudest people for their friends.

“Literally every time we had a new race our entire team would get up and cheer,” said Anderson.

Steinbrenner kept their voices up as they supported their friends in the competition. The team even started dancing and forming a conga line around the pool. It was hard for the students to not smile through their day when their entire team was yelling their names and dancing around the pool. Between the joyful dances and cheering the warriors left their meet with big smiles on their faces and a great deal of school spirit.
