Senior Mary Katherine Miller’s basketball career started back in middle school due to her height and the immense amount of people encouraging her to play. Although she didn’t start off with a love for the sport, Miller fell in love with it in the 8th grade and has been playing ever since. She plans to continue playing in college for Hillsborough Community College for a couple of years until she decides on a Division I or Division II school to play for later on.

“It’s close and they’re paying for all of my books and half my housing for the full ride and I really like the coach,” said Miller.

“He’s really experienced and [the coaches] know what they’re doing and most girls who graduate from there go to D1, D2 schools so they basically work them up so that their ready to play at the next level.”

She had made a big impact on the team, leading the team this year in rebounds (9.8 RPG), and third in points (7.4 PPG).

“My junior year, I made second all county conference team and in one of our Christmas tournaments, I made the ultimate team,” said Miller.

She also broke the school record for rebounds in a game this year against our school rival.

“My favorite moment is when I broke the school record against Gaither and we won the game. That was our third win in three days and it was all in one week. We were all really tired and exhausted, but we pushed through and we came out with the win,” said Miller.

“I’ll miss playing with my girls and the high school atmosphere. I loved taking the bus rides, the stress and the adrenaline of all the games, the team bonding, and the team meals.”
