Steinbrenner senior and varsity pitcher on the baseball team, David Crawford, has recently committed to Pasco Hernando State College after receiving a scholarship from the school.
“It’s close to home and they offered me a scholarship, and I know some of the other baseball kids that are already there right now,” said Crawford.
Crawford was lead to the school by former teammates and Steinbrenner alumns Ryan Russell and Brad Hessian. Crawford plans to continue to pitch in his college career, but will be redshirted his first year at the college as he sustained an injury during a Steinbrenner pre-season game. The injury to his elbow will need “Tommy John” surgery and will require him to be out of baseball for 18 months and then rehab his elbow back to peak condition.
As a state college Pasco Hernando is only a two year university, so Crawford has plans for the future.
“Once I do my two years there, I’ll try and get another scholarship to a bigger school, but if not I’ll have an associates degree and go to any university I want. I would probably wanna go to Florida State if I had a choice,” said Crawford.
As a junior, Crawford was valuable to the championship winning team going two and two with a 3.00 ERA in 12 appearances, and pitching 37 innings throughout the season.
While his Steinbrenner career may be over, rest assured this is not the last you’ve seen of Dave Crawford in the baseball diamond.
