2016 is proving to be the year of changes at Steinbrenner. One of these new additions, Dennis Derflinger, is an Assistant Principal who recently joined the Steinbrenner staff.
His arrival to the school was inspired by Steinbrenner’s athletic department, as he pursued the opportunity to have a leadership position in that field. As a teenager, Derflinger was very athletic, constantly playing sports after school and in his free time. He continued being involved in athletics by coaching varsity sports during his previous teaching positions.
Prior to working at Steinbrenner, Derflinger has worked with a variety of other schools, such as Freedom High School (where he coached varsity soccer), and Tampa Bay Technical High School, (where he was the Assistant Principal for student affairs).
Despite the higher level of student responsibility, his main priority is to stay available for any questions or concerns that students or teachers may have. Derflinger is responsible for arranging student activity of special events, athletics, and club and organization activities, among the many other duties he has at Steinbrenner.
Derflinger also understands the importance of the high school experience as it lays the foundations of student’s futures and the role that teachers and/or mentors play in it.
“Having good teachers who were passionate about what they were teaching and coaches who were good mentors,” said Derflinger. He’s looking forward to a great year at Steinbrenner.
