It’s nearly impossible for even the ultimate sports fan to make it to every single game, and that’s why GSHS ESPN was created. GSHS ESPN is an organization that uses social media platforms to keep Steinbrenner sports fans updated as the events are happening.
“It’s something we’ve needed in our school for a long time because not every student can make it to the sporting events,” said Senior Michael Kent.
GSHS ESPN covers all of the different types of Steinbrenner sporting, offering live coverage of the different sports events. So far some of the events that have been covered include: football games, cross country meets, and golf tournaments. The organization plans on covering all Steinbrenner sports at least once.
“We want to get more students involved and figure out what’s going on with all of the different sports so that they don’t have to text their friends to figure out what is happening as the game goes on,” said Junior Jim Orchard.
The organization also plans on creating their own app, where they will feature an “athlete of the month” and “player of the week” for each sport, posting highlights, and live tweeting games.
“I’m very excited to help start a Steinbrenner tradition, GSHS ESPN is going to be great for Steinbrenner sports,” said Senior Calvin McClarin.
Considering that they already have over 200 followers after having their Twitter account for less than a month, it’s safe to say that GSHS ESPN is off to a great start.
