With an AP class, teachers are sometimes challenged with developing a curriculum that will both challenge and entertain the students.

AP Government teacher Amanda Colborne came up with the idea of requiring students to maintain a blog.

“I got the idea from a class I took at USF in educational technology,” said Colborne. “The overall goal of the blog is to have students engage in political discourse using 21st century skills.”

Colborne’s students are required to keep a blog about current political events. Students must publish a new blog post each Thursday and comment on two other blog posts published by other students in the class.

“I learned a couple of things I wouldn’t have,” said senior Sydney Blackburn.

“It’s helpful because it makes you have look for stories, until it’s Thursday,” said senior Reavley Chapman.

Next semester the AP Government students will be covering Comparative Governement. The stories have to about political events or trends from Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, the People’s Republic of China,  Russia and the United Kingdom
