“Supergirl”, the CW show staring Melissa Benoist, returned tonight and exceeded the expectations of many viewers. There were tons of heartfelt moments, as well as questions that fans are eager to have answered throughout the season.

At the end of season two, Kara’s boyfriend Mon-El had to leave Earth due to his inability to survive. Right at the beginning of this first episode, Kara seemed to be feeling very alone, and had a difficult time connecting with her friends and family. This was very apparent as she was so focused on being Supergirl and ignored the part of her that is Kara Danvers, her human identity.

One of the scenes that most left viewers craving answers was when Kara was in battle underwater, eyes closed looking as though she was going to die. Mon-El appears in her mind saying the words “Wake up,” causing Kara to open her eyes and save National City from destruction. Was this just in Kara’s imagination or was Mon-El somehow able to communicate with her?

At the end of the episode we see Kara join her friends after giving them the cold shoulder the whole time. While it was interesting to see a not-so-cheery Supergirl, one of her defining characteristics is her optimism. As she continues to miss Mon-El, she hopefully will continue to stand with her friends rather than try and get through on her own, as it clearly didn’t work before.

As for the rest of the season, there are a few major events that fans are eagerly anticipating.

The first huge event will be Alex and Maggie’s wedding. Tonight viewers’ hearts melted when Alex asking J’onn if he could accompany her down the aisle, since her own father wouldn’t be able to. Alex and Maggie are the most loved couple on the show by far, so viewers are getting quite excited about the wedding.

Another thing that fans are excited to see is the development of Reign, the new villain for this season and what she will bring to the table. In the first episode, she was first introduced as a normal mother. However, when her daughter is trapped under a fallen pole, she discovers her powers as she is able to lift it off of her daughter with ease. The producers of “Supergirl” wanted to make her a different sort of villain, not one where she is shown in the first episode and then we find out towards the end that she has been evil all along. They wanted to make a villain that the audience will get to see grow, so it should be interesting to see her dark side manifest.

Although they are somewhat of a controversial couple, almost everyone is curious to know what happened to Mon-El. Fans of Kara and Mon-El can look forward to more “Karamel,” moments, as well as getting some answers of his whereabouts.

If nothing else, this season is sure to be packed full of adventures with the D.E.O. crew, impressive fight scenes, and wonderful moments from the Girl of Steel.
