With every new school year comes more new members to the warrior community. However, this is the first year that Steinbrenner, since its open, has welcomed new teachers to the music department.
Corey Poole, the new chorus teacher, Florida Southern College alumni, is a man of many talents. Ever since he was a young boy, he’s had a passion, love, and sense of energy for chorus.
“My fourth and fifth grade music teacher was the one to originally get me singing. Ever since then, I’ve gotten good grades and kept myself up because I knew that I wanted to continue to do things through music,” said Poole.
Poole had taught many things in his 14 years of teaching including: AP Music Theory, Show Choir, Musical Theater, ESE Performing Arts Programs, Orchestra, Piano, and also Drama.
“I play the piano, and I also work with musical theater. I am currently working with Mrs. Warfield right now on the production of Sweeney Todd,” said Poole.
The fine arts department introduces Eunhye Jeon as the new orchestra director. She recently graduated from FSU and has completed internships at middle and high school levels. After her internships she looked nationwide and statewide for a musical fine arts position and Steinbrenner poped up.
“The orchestra here is already pretty much established, but I want to make it a stronger orchestra as a whole and make them better musicians,” said Jeon.
She plans on taking the entire orchestra to MPA, a statewide competition for high school students and taking the entire orchestra to ‘Solo and Ensemble’ is where students can perform solos or as a group to receive the opportunity to be judged to see where they stand as a musician to allow them to further improve their musical capabilities.
Replacing Nicole Conte in the band department is Jason Allgair. Former band and orchestra director at Wharton, Allgair now teaches all Steinbrenner band classes, including percussion.
“By the time that I was in eighth grade I knew I wanted to be a music teacher, and I went to a performing arts high school to pursue that,”said Alligar.
As of now, Allgair plays the piano, the saxophone, and the marching baritone.
Allgair was originally offered the position of orchestra director here at Steinbrenner, but after Conte’s departure from band he was also offered a position as band director. Since Allgair taught for both orchestra and band at Wharton, the choice was mostly up to personal preference.
Since then, Allgair has moved on to become the District Chair for band representing Hillsborough County Public Schools, and continues to hold that position while teaching at Steinbrenner.
“The big thing that I want to do for the program is to double the size, so I want around 250 kids in band, and then I want to collaborate more between the orchestra, chorus, and theatre departments.
The Steinbrenner community is glad to welcome the new music department to the warrior family.
