Steinbrenner receive a devastating blow as they lost their starting quarterback, Cason Byrd, due to a torn ACL in the pre-season game.

While most team would panic Steinbrenner is remaining calm as they feel sophomore Colin Wray is more than capable to handle the starting job.

Although he has never played a varsity game, he started last year for the JV team and lead them to the best JV record in school history with an even 3-3 record.

Wray’s first test will be against the warriors biggest rival the Gaither Cowboys, who the Warriors have never beaten before.

“I was very excited and just wanted to beat them” Wray says.

Which is exactly what he did, as he led the warrior to a 13-0 victory over the Cowboys. It was the first time ever the Warriors have started the season off 1-0.

The move from JV to varsity is a huge transition and sometimes a hard one, ever since Byrd got injured, Wray has had to assume the starting role at quarterback.

“I’ve been talking to coach more and trying to make sure my fundamental and techniques are good.”

Although he only has three games under his belt, he has real high hopes for the rest of this season

“I hope to make to the playoffs and have a good year. “

With the season still young it is hard to say how good Wray will turn out, but so far he is exceeding the coaches expectations.
