LUTZ- The Warriors (0-1) showed they have many parts of their game to improve on as Gaither (1-0) destroyed Steinbrenner 43-0 on Thursday night.

“We need to improve,” said JV Head Coach Steve Graves. “We were beat in almost every category, and we need to work on our offensive line and tackling in order to be at our best for next week’s game.”

The Warrior offense seemed to have no sense of production throughout the game as the team  accounted for 115 yards of total offense. Starting quarterback Colin Wray accounted for 55 yards on 3-9 attempts along with two interceptions including a pic-six. During the play Wray injured his ankle and did not return. The Warriors also lacked in rushing until the second half when Tymoie Coleman rushed for 45 yards.

The defense as well played poorly as they allowed over 450 yards of offense, including 395 yards on the ground from the three running backs of Gaither. However one positive for the Warriors came from linebacker Cameron Woodward, who tallied eight tackles, two blocked kicks, and a fumble recovery.

“We have to play better,” said Woodward. “We need to work on our pursuit to the ball and our form tackling and in order to perform at our best next week we have to shake off this loss and come out even stronger for the next game.”

Steinbrenner will look on to next week’s game against district rival Freedom High School on September 23 at home.
