When Steinbrenner’s football team faced Spoto a week ago, the Warriors won, but at a cost—senior team captain Michael Norder was injured on a routine running play. After attempting to set a block, Norder said he could “feel his knee pop,” but didn’t know the full extent of the damage until later.
An initial examination concluded that he had a sprained MCL, a connective ligament in the knee, which has a relatively quick recovery time. It was only after a follow-up look that it was discovered in addition to the sprained MCL, he had also torn the meniscus and ACL ligaments. Norder is undergoing surgery in the coming weeks, but the long recovery time means he will be out for the rest of his final season with the Warriors.
Norder says he is receiving full support from his family, friends, and team, and is staying positive about the injury. Head coach of the football team, Andres Perez, is as well.
“The next guy is up. We play Friday night, no matter what. All it means is the next guy has an opportunity,” said Perez after being asked about any changes that may be made in response to Norder’s absence.
