Defense won the game for Plant City Friday night in a 25-10 triumph as the Warriors running and passing game struggled.

“Plant [City] is a good football team. They don’t make a whole lot of mistakes and they have a great coach.” Said Warriors head coach, Andres Perez.

Junior quarterback Quentin Poteralski, filling in for injured starting quarterback, senior Curtis Fitch, was 2-6 for 0 yards. Without starter Jake Carroll, running backs senior Mike Norder and junior Kezio Snelling carried the ball for a combined effort of 10 yards on 32 attempts.

“We just can’t move the ball or get any receivers open. Nothing is working on offense for us.  I made bad decisions and didn’t have the time to throw the ball” said Poteralski.

Plant City allowed Steinbrenner to keep it close up until the 2nd half because of the 15 penalties for 140 yards and three turnovers committed. For the Warriors, those opportunities just weren’t enough to get the ball down the field even with the outstanding performance of sophomore linebacker, Tyler Mirabella.

“Our philosophy is that we have to put our guys on the field and play hard defense. Our guys are doing that. Offensively, we aren’t moving the ball and we aren’t giving our defense a rest and we have to focus on doing that” said Perez.

Coach Perez has no timetable for Fitch’s or Carroll’s return to the team. Steinbrenner will go on to play their second game of the season against Alonso at home at 7:30 pm.

  1. I think the Steinbrenner football team is very talented, and they just need some practice. It’s obvious that it works, because they get better and better every single game.
