In their first district game of the 2012-2013 season, the Warriors (3-0) were able to get past their 1-0 deficit in the 1st half, and win the night 6-1 against the Freedom Patriots (1-4) with the help of a strong second half offense.
“We have started slow every game of the season so far, and in order for us to win and do better, we must get better at these first half styles of play and get a faster more effective offense” said Coach Chad Ebright.
The men’s varsity squad was led by a normal mid-fielder, now playing striker due to an abundance of injuries, junior Austin Labban, he scored three of the six Warrior goals. Also part of this scoring frenzy was senior center-forward Jason Collister who had two goals.
“It was pretty bad for those first 39 minutes of our game, but at half time, when coach talked to us, we re-grouped, we got ourselves together and played some solid defense and scored a good amount of goals” said Labban.
But nothing Labban and Collister did was on their own. The received much needed help from their mid-fielders and junior goalie, Christian Knight, who had 7 saves and some much needed long drive punts up the sidelines.
The Warriors will be faced with the challenge of fixing their first half offense, their conditioning, and overall performance by tomorrow night for their 4th game of the season against undefeated district rival and leader, Wiregrass high school (3-0).
