The Lady Warriors listen to their coach while preparing to break after a time out. They went on to completely dominate with a final score of 63-14.

Tuesday night the lady Warriors beat the Sunlake Sea hawks 63-14, showing they are a force to be reckoned with.

The starters, seniors Justice Thigpen, Baylee Hooker, Lauren Stemm, junior Taylor Thigpen and sophomore Rachel Briere, set the pace for what turned out to be a first quarter wipeout. Holding the Seahawks to two points in the first eight minutes, head coach JR Allen saw some things he really liked.

“We got in some situations where we set up the offense the way we wanted, and just based off of the defense (of Sunlake), we weren’t able to get all the way through the plays,” said Allen. “But, we were able to get a lot of good basketball out of it.”

Returning to the floor after a serious back injury at the beginning of last season, senior Lauren Shedd was able to put up 11 points during the game; in addition, she fought for several rebounds.

Later in the game, when more of the younger/newer girls were put in, Allen said that he wanted them to focus purely on executing what they set out to do. He says that  the team’s trademark is to be a “lights out defensive team”; when it comes to offense, he knows they have enough talent to were “it will take care of itself”.

For the game, Allen said that all the girls did a great job of executing, but that “We can always get better.”

The lady Warriors will go up against the Newsome Wolves at home this Thursday, November 8  at 7:30 p.m.
