TAMPA – Steinbrenner foreign language teacher Lamonte Hambrick was arrested early Tuesday evening on charges of trafficking in illegal drugs and grand theft, according to a release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Hambrick, 30, is alleged to have removed several bottles of Hydrocodone and Alprazolam from the CVS Pharmacy at 813 W. Bearss Avenue, where he worked as a pharmacy technician. The report stated Hambrick admitted to removing the bottles of prescription pills to provide them to a friend which would in turn sell them.
He remains in the Hillsborough County Jail on $252,000 bond as the investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE (11:52 a.m.) – Principal Brenda Grasso told The Oracle she could not comment on the specific details regarding the investigation, but said that Hambrick was not planning to return for the 2012-13 school year after formally resigning his teaching position in March.
UPDATE (1:54 p.m.) – A letter has been sent home to students from Grasso and the school administration to inform parents that Hambrick “will not finish the school year with (Steinbrenner)”. Students will be moved to other Spanish II classrooms to continue their preparation for the final semester exam in June.

I love how teachers tell us to steer clear of drugs, but yet this happens. Mr. Hambrick needs to control his actions outside of school and own up to his mistakes and learn from them. So make this a valuable life lesson and learn from it.
