LUTZ – The Steinbrenner baseball team got through just an inning and a half against Brandon, before heavy rain drenched the field making the surface unplayable.
The Eagles (10-6) led 1-0 and were at-bat in the top of the second inning with two outs and a runner at third base. The rain drops soon turned to a downpour and the umpires suspended the game with tarps placed over the pitchers mound and home plate circle.
After about 30 minutes, the decision was made to postpone the contest, to be resumed on Monday at 7 p.m. according to Warriors (11-6) coach John Crumbley.
Steinbrenner pitcher Danny Rodriguez gave up three hits, an earned run and struck out one. While Brandon’s Chris Toney gave up a pair of hits and struck out one over one inning.
The Warriors had two runners on first and second base in the first inning, after shortstop Stone Ramsey and second baseman Christian Diaz got aboard. However, both Chase Turner and Gerald Bautista flew out to end the inning.
Designated hitter Sammy May is due up for the Warriors when play continues.
