Upcoming star, Ty Robinson, a sophomore at Steinbrenner High School shares his story of taking on the role of quarterback on our varsity team. He began his football career at an early age in his home state of Maryland, “When I was around five years old, I started playing. I’m from Maryland originally so I started playing there,” said Robinson. Being from another state also brings in more experience to his career because he has worked with many different coaches.

Being so young, he obviously could not do it on his own, and he got most of his inspiration from his father because, “he’s taught me everything I know,” said Robinson.

When Robinson tried out for the football team this year, he earned the spot of the quarterback of the varsity team. When asked the question of what his biggest accomplishment he has achieved so far is, “[Joining the team,] that’s a big accomplishment because I was there as a sophomore,” he said.

Being a sophomore on the varsity team also comes with the fact that he is also relatively younger than the other members of the team. This can have its perks, but with perks comes downfalls. “It’s been fun [I] made a lot of friends, I love my teammates,” said Robinson. Making new friends is a thing within itself, but remember Robinson is also a high school student and still has those duties to fulfill.

Juggling school and a sport within itself is difficult but seeing as he is such an important figure on the Steinbrenner football team there is a lot of added stress added onto that. His opinion on this is, “It’s a lot to handle but it’s worth it, it has it’s days,” said Robinson.

Ty of course did not start playing on a varsity football team so it must be different than an outside of school team. So, is it any different? “It’s fun, I just love playing the sport I’ve been playing. It has its flaws… [everybody] is just different.”

But it is still the beginning of the season, and there have only been three games so far, and the team has much to do to train in order to achieve their biggest desire. “[I] hope we’re district champions, that’s our main goal,” said Robinson. Becoming district champions for the 2021-2022 season would be huge goal to attain for Ty, the football team, and even Steinbrenner as a whole.

The first game of the season was on August 20 against Robinson High School and our varsity team won 50-0. On August 27, the team headed to Hillsborough High School and unfortunately had a crushing defeat, but Ty has confidence in his teammates and believes, “We’ll perform pretty well, [we] lost last week but we’ll bounce back,” said Robinson.

There are not many sophomores on the varsity team and Ty believes, “It’s a good accomplishment, I mean I haven’t done anything yet [but] it’s pretty cool.”

Being a huge star at the school has led to so many triumphs, along with defeats. Seeing him play at games and everyone cheering when he scored a touchdown at the game against Robinson is evidence that he has earned his spot on the varsity team as number 7.
