After a long year of many struggles due to the COVID-19 virus causing shutdowns around the world, school sporting events are back. Dealing with things such as e-learning, one-way hallways, and being quarantined multiple times by being exposed to the virus, the Steinbrenner football team is back and ready to dominate this season.

Not only is the football team excited, but so are the students and staff ready to cheer on their team. Included in last year’s struggles were a limited number of fans at sporting events, with each player on the team only being allowed to give five tickets to family and friends. But now events are back at full capacity and the student section is ready to cheer loudly for their team.

While students, faculty, and the team were all set for the game, earlier in the day it seemed as if Florida’s weather was having different plans.. With the rain starting to downpour, it looked like the football game could have been cancelled. Thankfully, the rain did not last long- allowing for the game to be played.

Many were able to cheer on the Varsity team to earn a win against their opponents, Robinson High School, the knights. In an impressive game, the warriors were able to defeat the knights 50-0 in their preseason game.

While the team won their preseason game, they faced many challenges during the practices leading up to the game. With many of their practices being canceled left and right the team had to learn to be a team with a limited number of practices.

One of the kickers on the team, Junior Colin Young, stated that, “I think the game went very well! We were able to 50-0 a team during our preseason where practices were left and right. We have a lot to work on but based off this game I think it’s going to be a fun season” said Young.

Even with the challenges the squad was facing, the team was able to persevere through the struggles and win their first game of the season. The student section is ready as well to cheer once again. With many games lined up for this season, the football squad looks forward to being the best they can be.
