The Steinbrenner Boys’ baseball team had their senior night on Thursday 4/1. They were coming off a 2-4 loss vs. Wharton, although having won three of their last five games. Their opponent of the night was Hillsborough, a 14-2 team coming to keep up their streak. 

Before the game, the seven Steinbrenner seniors were honored with a ceremony. The 2021 Seniors include Eliecer Martinez, Tyler Reynolds, Glenn Lane III, Jacob Statman, Tayden Hall, Andrew Burns, and James Strom. Each player presented their parents with flowers as they walked out to meet them while their name, stats and academic achievements were being announced over the loudspeaker.  

The game started out slow, with Steinbrenner senior pitcher Jacob Statman holding the Terriers to 0 runs over the first four innings. The Warriors, however, had put up two runs in the third inning so they entered the 5th inning up 2-0. Hillsborough came back with four quick runs in the 5th inning, as Steinbrenner realized they needed to come up with some quick runs. The Warriors had the biggest inning of the season, putting up nine runs aided by a grand slam from senior James Strom. Steinbrenner again held Hillsborough to zero runs, and then proceeded to score three more in the bottom of the 6th inning. This ended the game, as Steinbrenner routed Hillsborough 14-4 on senior night. The Warriors outhit the Terriers 10-4, while Hillsborough had seven errors on the night compared to Steinbrenner’s one. 

After the game, the seniors were surprised with bags containing a picture of everyone, their own head cutout, beef jerky, sunflower seeds and a sports drink. The dugout had a banner with all the seniors’ names painted on. Also, the fence outside the stadium had seven banners with photos of all of the seniors being celebrated. Overall, it was a great night capped off by a big win from the Warriors.
