With Halloween coming up soon, it’s time to get your movie binge list prepared. While Halloween is the holiday made for terrifying horror movies, not everyone likes to be scared. Here are some recommendations for spooky flicks for everyone, not just horror lovers.

The Addams Family and Addams Family Values 

Scare Level: Not scary 

“The Addams Family” (1991) and “Addams Family Values” (1993) are two classic dark comedies that are perfect for Halloween.  

Rating: PG-13 

What We Do in the Shadows 

Scare Level: Slightly scary 

“What We Do in the Shadows” (2014) is the perfect oddball vampire movie for an audience seeking a more quirky, independent Halloween movie.

Edward Scissorhands 

Scare Level: Not scary 

The classic Tim Burton film “Edward Scissorhands” (1990) will leave audiences nostalgic with its heartwarming and strange charm. 

Rating: PG-13

Scooby Doo 

Scare Level: Slightly scary 

The live-action “Scooby Doo” (2002) will leave both children and adults in laughter with great performances from popular ‘90s stars. 

Rating: PG

Zombieland 

Scare Level: Slightly scary 

“Zombieland” (2009) twists the typical zombie movie into an oddly charming comedy with a loveable cast. 

Rating: R 

The Halloweentown franchise 

Scare Level: Not scary 

The “Halloweentown” franchise (1998-2006) is fun for younger kids who still trick or treat and is nostalgic for ‘90s kids who grew up with Disney Channel.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown 

Scare Level: Not scary 

“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” (1966) is the perfect holiday special for the whole family to enjoy.

Beetlejuice 

Scare level: Slightly scary 

Halloween queen Winona Ryder plays Lydia Deets in “Beetlejuice” (1988), a classic that is sure to spook the audience with its hokey ‘80s charm. 

Rating: PG 

Clue 

Scare level: Not scary 

Based on the board game “Clue” (1985), it is the perfect Halloween movie for mystery lovers with great performances from legendary ‘80s actors. 

Rating: PG 

Jennifer’s Body 

Scare level: Scary 

“Jennifer’s Body” (2009) is the perfect mix between “Mean Girls” and “The Lost Boys” and will have you questioning whether you should be laughing or screaming.

Ghostbusters 

Scare Level: Slightly scary 

“Ghostbusters” (1984) is the must-watch blueprint for Halloween comedies that still holds up well in 2020.

Heathers 

Scare level: Scary 

The 1988 black comedy “Heathers” is a hilarious teen romance with a sinister twist you won’t see coming. 

Rating: R 

The Harry Potter franchise 

Scare level: Not scary 

While the Harry Potter movies are not technically Halloween themed, they give just the right amount of spooky fantastical energy to be perfect for a Halloween movie binge.

Hubie Halloween

Scare level: Slightly scary 

Said by creator Adam Sandler to be the worst movie ever made, “Hubie Halloween” (2020) is a Halloween mystery that you can’t help but make fun of. 

Rating: PG-13 

Coraline 

Scare level: Slightly scary 

“Coraline” (2009) may appear to be an innocent stop-motion children’s film, but what lies beneath the surface is a dark fantasy film about a scary alternate universe. 

Rating: PG
