Since last year, life has changed considerably. COVID-19 has affected all aspects of people’s lives and school is no exception. Students walk down one-way hallways every day and wearing masks has become the new normal. As a result, Steinbrenner decided to do Club Rush a different way this year.
Usually, people walk around the gym during lunch, looking at booths and picking up forms to sign. When doing this, students get to meet other club members, leaders and teachers. This year, students got to do the same thing— but through a video.
“I think having the Club Rush virtually and having each club advertise for themselves is the best, safest and most efficient way to do it,” teacher Ruth Jordan said.
Jordan leads a service club called the Exchangettes, and she is looking forward to being able to safely welcome new members this school year. Along with many others, Jordan believes the school is taking every possible measure to keep its students and staff safe while still making this school year as normal as it can be.
Steinbrenner students still had to submit club forms and dues as usual, but the meetings started on Zoom calls. The clubs have adjusted as needed, but most of the clubs will be the same as usual.
It’s been half a year since schools shut down, and life has changed immensely. However, schools have done everything they can to start getting our lives back to normal. Schools have reopened, students get to see their friends and, because of clubs, they get to do what they love to do.
“I would encourage students to join clubs. Even though in many cases we will be meeting on Zoom, I still think it’s an opportunity for them to get involved and to meet people outside of their social circle,” Administrator Allison Cuffaro said.
