Logan Hasselbach is a senior at Steinbrenner who works with March for Our Lives Tampa, a gun prevention activism group specifically for the Tampa Bay Area. This is her second year working with the organization and getting to be a part of it wasn’t as hard as one may think.
“I’ve always been a huge gun violence prevention activist, and one of my friends was actually the founder of March for Our Lives Tampa, so I reached out to her to find out how I could be a part of a bigger organization to enact change in the Tampa Bay Area. I am currently part of the marketing committee in MFOL Tampa. My job is to help think of ways we could promote our events and causes and eventually go through with those tactics,” said Hasselbach.
A connection isn’t required to sign up though. A quick visit to the March for Our Lives website or social media allows the viewer to sign up for events, register to vote, and buy merchandise where the profits are sent to preventing gun violence. March for Our Lives, founded in 2017, is still very active in the community today, and recently honored the fallen of the Texas and Dayton, Ohio shootings. The recent event had an art installation, tables for writing letters to senators and signing petitions, and a table dedicated to Mom’s Demand Action, another activist group fighting gun violence.
“We had Congresswoman Castor come out and speak along with some more local gun prevention activists. It was a great event and a lot of community members came out to show their support,” said Hasselbach
Hasselbach’s extracurriculars don’t end with March for Our Lives, however. She is a part of Young Democrats, DECA, NHS, BETA, and volunteers with the YMCA and some climate change organizations. She also hopes to create a March for Our Lives club at Steinbrenner.
