Ending the season with a bang, Oct. 26 saw not only the final football of the 2018 season but Steinbrenner’s homecoming game and senior night.
While the game began at 7:30, senior night was celebrated the hour before. Senior night is when the seniors of football, cheerleading, and marching band are thanked for their hard work all these years.
The game begins, and right from the start, the Warriors are fired up and pushing Palm Harbor University against the wall. By the end of the first quarter, Steinbrenner has the clear lead that would last for the rest of the game.
By the time the half time break arrived, Steinbrenner had around a 20-point lead, with Palm Harbor still at nothing.
Half time itself was dedicated to the Homecoming Court, as the nominees for all court positions walked down the field. Around them, the class floats circled the track, showing off their class colors and pride. The Junior ROTC’s battalion led the march, and Steinbrenner varsity football alumni behind them.
There were a lot of Steinbrenner alumni enjoying the game, as part of the Homecoming event and in the stands. The night was filled with school pride and joy. It is safe to say that everyone felt like a part of the Warrior family.
The game starts back up after half time, and the third quarter was quickly over. By the start of the fourth quarter, the Warriors had an almost 30-point lead. The Warriors were dominating the field, and Palm Harbor still had not scored anything.
Senior Logan Kilburn was on the field that night, putting all his energy into the season’s final game. While the overall season may have seen mixed results, this final game was one of the team’s optimum games, and players like Kilburn knew that.
“It was definitely one of our best games,” said Kilburn.
Kilburn joined the varsity team is Sophomore year. In these last couple of years, Kilburns feels that the team overall has improved.
The game ends, and the Warriors won 41-0. The season has ended, and the Warriors left it on the highest note possible.
In accordance with the Homecoming game every year, the Marching Warrior Brigade performs their show after the game. It would be one of their last runs, preparing for the annual Music Performance Assessment that was occurring the following morning.
While the season may be over, seniors are moving on, and the team could go to state, there is still room for improvement. The underclassmen will take over, and need to do better than their predecessors. There is nowhere to go but up from here.
