On Jan. 25, Steinbrenner’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club attended their District Meeting, where they swept the competition. Steinbrenner FBLA placed first in 13 distinct events, with 18 individual students winning first place awards, and 28 students placing total.
Out of the many people who came in first, one was Drishti More, a sophomore who won the Healthcare Administration competition. This event is an online test which tests each of the participant’s knowledge on the in and outs of healthcare.
“I studied for this test,” said More.”You learn medical terminology, you learn patient care, you learn what different health organizations like HIPAA [do], “ said More, “and you get tested on it.”
But for More, this was about something more than the average exam.
“I’ve always found healthcare intriguing,” said Drishti. “It’s something that if you learn about, it actually applies to everyone, no matter who you are or where you stand, so it’s important to know what affects you and what’ll affect your future. “
In March, Drishti and several other FLBA competitiors will compete in the state competitions being held in Orlando.
Among the other Steinbrenner participants, Christiana Ramazzotto and Kiki Stegman came in first in web design. They too will advance to the state level.
“Through competing, I was able able to improve my website and graphic design skills,” said Ramazzotto.
Her sentiment on the importance of this event was echoed by junior Riddhi Banerjee, who placed fourth in the Healthcare Administration Competition.
“[This event] was interesting to me and I wanted to learn more about it,” said Banerjee.
Whatever their competitions are, the members of Steinbrenner’s FBLA are clearly learning some important lessons from their time at districts.
