October is known for more than just Halloween- it’s also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Steinbrenner clubs are always eager to raise awareness for the disease . As a whole, the school does pink-outs to show support and raise awareness, but the Steinbrenner HOSA club specifically picked a new way to donate to the cause.

For the last two weeks, HOSA, a co-curricular club at the school designed for students interested in the health science and sports medicine field, has been selling pink bracelets to raise awareness and offer support for breast cancer. All the profits go directly to the American Cancer Society.

They decided to sell bracelets now, not only because it’s October, but also because the football team organizes pink-outs this month, and a lot of kids buy the bracelets along with shirts. HOSA set up a stand during lunch to collect donations and sales for the pink bands.

“We knew that would be a good way to grab in students to participate in this charity drive,” said Jackie Wantuch, the HOSA sponsor.

HOSA will also be selling the bracelets at Relay For Life next semester, and other events throughout the school year.

“Being a medical club and health conscious about the community events, we thought that this was just one way we could help an organization out,” said Wantuch.

Breast cancer is a disease that affect millions of Americans, and it is heartwarming to see Steinbrenner supporting its victims.
