On a rainy night at Steinbrenner High School, the varsity Warrior football team took on the Jefferson Dragons at home. While the outcome was an unfortunate 24-0, a Jefferson win, the Warriors didn’t go down without a fight.

The Warriors started with a strong defense that stayed solid for most of the night.

“As a team, our defense is balling and our offense is about to click, so we’re good.” said Sophomore Aidan Bitter, who had some impressive catches and contributions throughout the game.

While the defense had put in a good effort, some hinted that there is a lot to work on when it comes to the offense.

Next time the boys face Jefferson, they’ll need to “Execute the game plan, stick to our roles, and of course, score points,” said Junior Vinnie Forese.

However, some might chalk up the outcome to the refereeing. There were a lot of boos in the Steinbrenner crowd when the whistle blew.

“Well the refs, what they called gave the other team what they wanted.” said Sophomore Jose Bautista.

There were a few standout plays and moments for Steinbrenner during the game. Early in the game, Aidan Bitter caught one pass for 45 yards, while Brandon Garcia had three catches for 58 yards. Deon Silas got very close to a touchdown and overall had an exemplary performance. Senior Jacob Baker recovered a fumble that had the crowd cheering. In the last few minutes of the game, Sophomore Greyson Linnell blocked a near touchdown, showcasing the Warrior’s fantastic defense.

When Warrior football goes back to practice next week, they expect to “…come in, watch film, break it down, and find what we’re going to work on and other things we need to improve on,” which can include “Communication issues, staying square with our blocks, and keeping the technique up.” said Senior Spencer Lee.
