Some Steinbrenner students dream of owning their own business in the future, but Seniors William Capo and Kyle Banks are already living it. Capo and Banks own Tribe Events, a music promotion business.
Tribe Events works with different artists and helps them come up with promotion strategies to increase their fan bases and streaming of music. Their main goals are to increase the number of Soundcloud re-posts and gain a stronger social media presence for their artists.
The company accomplishes this with salesmen who reach out to artists through Twitter and use their resources to sell the social media promotions.
It all started when Capo was working at three different restaurants. He had always had an passion for music, so starting a business like Tribe Events seemed more interesting.
“At one point in my life I was working three separate jobs and I was very unhappy,” said Capo.
After being forced to work one New Year’s Eve, Capo decided to pursue a different line of work.
“At that time I thought to myself ‘I know that I’m good at throwing parties and I want to start something in the music business,” said Capo.
An artist asked Capo to organize a show for him in Tampa and the business has continued to grow ever since. Now Tribe Events hosts live music events all throughout Florida and other parts of the South.
Tribe Events tweets and promotes both upcoming and established artists. One of the Tribe Events artists, Derrick Milano, recently hit over one million plays for his song “Play Wit It!” on Soundcloud. Along with this, they tweet information about what is going on in the hip-hop and rap industry involving popular artists such as Drake and Meek Mill.
The social media promotion business isn’t just exclusive to Twitter (@eventstribe), they are also active on Instagram (@eventstribe) and Snapchat (@Tribeenterprise).
Capo and Banks are also thinking of starting up another business, but this time in the automobile industry.
“We are working on another start-up business to try and revolutinize the car buying business,” said Capo.
With over 18,000 followers on Twitter and multiple successful artists as clients, it’s safe to say that Tribe Events will continue to be successful in the future.
