After receiving Creating Photo 1 instead of an art class I wanted, I lost any and all expectations to have my expression of art incorporated into my daily school routine. But what I have discovered over the semester is how photography is a form of art.
The best part is how the teacher, Kyle Wolf, was able to integrate so many different ideas and techniques, both digitally and materially, of photography.
One assignment was to take a photo and draw it out using the Chuck Close drawing technique. It‘s where one recreates an image on a sheet of paper by dividing the image and the paper into a line grid. Once both are gridded it’s a matter of recreating the image, square by individual square. One person in the class, who hated drawing and admitted she was terrible at it, began to actually enjoy it after the reproduction of her image had progressed.
I, for one, decided to do my drawing on one of my 23 porcelain fairies that I have collected over the years. I didn’t exactly draw it square by square, but let me tell you how helpful this technique is. It’s a great way for beginners who want to get into drawing but don’t know where to start. It helps me focus on the little details of the image that I always had trouble drawing, usually because my proportions were off.
Photography is an art worth recognizing and has definitely inspired me to explore more forms of art outside of painting and drawing.
I LOVE THIS BLOG.! You did such a great job with the examples. and i did hate drawing but i have respect for it now
