If its winning the girls soccer state championships or getting state runner up in both mens soccer and girls volleyball championships, Steinbrenner has time and time again shown its outstanding athletic ability. Five Steinbrenner student athletes commited on National signing day on Wednesday just adding to the long list of Steinbrenner scholarship athletes.  Soccer players Micheal Connell (North Florida University), Jason Fishman (Spartanburg Methodist College), and Kirsten Russell (Nova Southeastern University), as well as softball player Lourdis Hohmann (Ava Maria), and football player Jay Dantley (Coffeyville Community College) were the Steinbrenner students that commited.

Micheal Connell has helped lead the soccer team to the playoffs every year he has been on the team. “I am looking forward to competing for a position and getting good grades, hopefully. They just had a player drafted into the MLS (Major League Soccer) so hopefully I can go onto that same career path,” says Connell when discussing his decision on going to UNF.

Another member of the perennially talented Steinbrenner boys soccer team is Jason Fishman. “I am looking to pursue soccer after college, that has always been a personal goal of mine, and I’m sure of every soccer player, and I couldn’t ask for more.”

Kirsten Russell has been a talented asset for the Warriors girls soccer team over her 4 year career. She helped lead the team to the playoffs this year with 5 goals and 8 assists, averaging almost 1 assist a game over the season. ” It’s a great school, and has a great Psychology program which I am looking to major in.”

Steinbrenner softball catcher Lourdas Hohmann made contributions on both offense and defense last year to help her attain her goals of getting a scholarship. “I really liked the campus of Ava Maria and I am looking forward to furthering my education while being able to play softball.”

Last but not least, Jay Dantley, star Steinbrenner running back who played a big part in the Warriors breakout season and first appearance in the playoffs. “I am just happy to be playing football and hopefully after my two years at this university, I can move on to a D1 school for football. Hopefully I can end up going to UF!”
