The Pokémon Company officially announced that Shadow Mewtwo will be joining the list of playable characters for its upcoming game, Pokken Tournament. Shadow Pokémon aren’t new to the franchise, as Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness was centered around them as well as the game’s main

boss: Shadow Lugia. However, fans are still hyped for this legendary Pokémon’s new form.
Pokken Tournament is essentially a Pokémon version of Tekken. Instead of commanding your own Pokémon in a battle, you are the Pokémon! There are no trainers in this battle tournament, just good, ol’ fashion brawling.
The arcade version of Pokken Tournament depicted Shadow Mewtwo as a boss, so it is unclear whether or not they will join the roster of playable characters. The roster thus far includes: Pikachu, Pikachu’s Libre Form, Charizard, Machamp, Gengar, Suicune, Blaziken, Gardevoir, Lucario, and Weavile. It is also confirmed that Mega Evolutions are usable during battles for the eligible Pokémon.
More speculation has fans questioning if Shadow Mewtwo will appear in later Pokémon games. One of which is the rumored Pokémon Z that has only been hinted at through a CoroCoro scan leak of Zygarde’s different forms.
Pokken Tournament will release in Japan on July 16th, 2015 for the Wii U console.
