On Friday April, 25 of 2014, Steinbrenner’s chorus members delivered their annual Horizons concert that showcased the collective and individual talents of its students.
The program began with a piece done by the entire group, but there were also solo performances, entourage performances, and barbershop style renditions. Each song is known for having won an award, but not all of them were oldies, popular titles like Pharrell Williams “Happy” ( performed by Entourage) and Idina Menzel’s “Let it Go” (performed by Gabriela Shepard) were also included. However, the show didn’t exclusively just include seniors and Entourage, junior Josh Perez performed a cover of Michael Buble’s “Cry Me a River”.
Each song also had its own skit, sort of like a Steinbrenner-style music video. For example Thayne Catmull, Curtis Newbill, Josh Perez, Chris Tanberg, and Vicente Yanez, performed the “Best Song Ever,” calling it “Five Directions”, instead of “One Direction”. Not to mention, junior Kaelynn Norkas’ “Hot and Cold” rendition, which included a wedding gone wrong.
The concert also served as the group’s collective goodbye to the seniors as they gave each one a flower, and the seniors continued with a performance of “Since You Been Gone”, lastly the entire cast performed “Sing for Me” (Christina Aguilera) before signing off with “Toxic” (Britney Spears) and “Happy” (Pharrell Williams).
This performance may have been the last collective chorus concert but in no way shape or form was it the least, with stellar performances and multiple hilarious skits.
