On April 3, 2014 students represented Steinbrenner at the annual Global Classroom Model UN session held at USF.

Kelly Miliziano, department head of social studies, led students to the learning conference at USF in a global classroom session. The club itself, in addition to the dynamic learning environment, provided students with the chance to discuss problems going on all around the globe. One particular topic students at the conference discussed was the situation in Mali.

“Model UN is an activity that is a stimulation of the UN, where students work to represent real countries and think about solutions to global issues. That’s the bottom line,” said Miliziano.

Junior Alex Abdul has been to the conference four times but still finds himself inspired each time he returns.

“You always learn something new about what’s going on in the world and how to develop interactions with your peers,” said Abdul. Whereas for vice president of the club, senior Kelsey Burg, the conference acted as a new experience and one she says she’ll remember.

However, this recent activity is only a prelude as to what is to come, as students move onto a bigger conference located at an Ivy League School yet to be selected. The conference is scheduled to span over five days and is expected to take place on a much larger scale, with students traveling from all over the world to attend.
