LUTZ- Steinbrenner found their missing offense Tuesday night as the Warriors claimed a much needed district win over Freedom,11-3. Senior Brennan Garcia started on the mound for the troubled Warriors (12-4, 5-3), claiming a big win for himself and for the team, throwing five great innings. Garcia gave up four hits, one walk, and three runs, but struck out four in the process as he went on to earn his fifth win of the season, becoming 5-1.New leadoff hitter, senior Kevin Merrell, continued his hot streak as he smacked in three RBI’s going four-for-four. Even more impressive was his superb base running skills, as he stole a combined amount of four bases, one of which was on a passed ball.
“We have been struggling at the plate but it’s not how you start but how you finish” said Merrell.“Everything was here tonight” Garcia said. “We took better swings and we weren’t overaggressive and it worked well.”
The Warriors will host Robinson this Friday at 7 p.m. and then will begin a two game road trip at Spoto and King. They will then come back to The Yard to host Alonso and Riverview before traveling to Bloomingdale for their final game of the 2014 regular season.
