The Warrior Varsity football players pose for their team photo. Perez couldn’t stress enough how much earning the highest GPA was really a team effort.

During this year’s football season, the team was not only busy on the field, but in the classroom as well. For the 2012-2013 school year, the Warriors football team received the highest cumulative GPA in Hillsborough County.

“It’s important to remember that we are all student-athletes, and the student part comes first for a reason,” said head coach Andres Perez-Reinaldo, “winning for the county is a huge accomplishment, but the fact that our team GPA improved as much as it did shows that our kids are doing the right thing.”

Before the season, the coaches constructed a whole program that revolved specifically around academics. Not only did they have each team member sign an academic contract and submit various grade reports throughout the season, but the coaches instructed each of them to sit in the first two rows of every one of their classes.

Perez really emphasized that this was a team effort.

“I would hate to sit here and give names [of those who had the highest GPA’s on the team] because it really was a team accomplishment,” said Perez, “even hungrier to beat it again next year.”

Academics is nothing short of a priority to the Warriors football team, and it is something Perez is very proud of and he believes it will translate onto the field.

“After they [student-athletes] start and continue to do the right things in the classroom , in the community, and as a person, they will become better players overall.”

  1. What a well written article. I think it’s great that the football team has the highest GPA overall in the county. This is good for the school and the team.

  2. Amazing story! Stories like these are what students want to read. I can tell the football team really tried there best to acheive this goal. Congrats to the boys. After all the hard work, they deserve this. This makes our school look very well rounded!!
