ESTERO – Looking to advance to the championship final in the Queen of The Palms Tournament, Palm Beach Central knocked off Steinbrenner in the semi-final round, 47-30.
The Broncos (10-2) avoided key mistakes and used consistant scoring in the first quarter to get by the Warriors’ (10-2) defense.
After trailing 21-12 at halftime, Steinbrenner flexed its muscle in a desperate attempt to comeback, but the Central offense, which finished a perfect 5 for 5 from the three point line and 6 for 6 at the freethrow line, outscored the Warriors to capture its tenth victory of the season.
Junior Baylee Hooker led the Warriors with eight points, senior Alexis Wright had five and senior Rebecca Cohen finished with seven rebounds and five blocks.
The Broncos’ Crystal Primm led Central with 13 points.
Steinbrenner will play again this afternoon, Dec. 30, at 3:30 for third place against Lehigh in the Pearl Division tournament finale before heading back to Lutz where it will play Gaither on Jan. 3.
