Dec. 26 of 2014 marked the departure of Steinbrenner’s Marching Warrior Brigade to Memphis, TN after being selected to represent the state of Florida for an opportunity to participate in the college football AutoZone Liberty Bowl Halftime Show. This led to a series of awards and the privilege to showcase this year’s Latin themed performance called “Musica Caliente”, which they’ve been perfecting since the Summer of 2014. The spicy tunes were performed numerous times during halftime shows at Steinbrenner Warrior Football games, however this time in front of an audience of 50,000+ during the Pregame Show of the bowl.
The brigade received 1st place during a Battle of The Bands Field show competition Saturday, Dec. 27, in the Music, Marching, General Effect, Auxiliary (Color guard), Drum Major, and Percussion categories—practically sweeping all the awards possible and earning the honorable title of Grand Champions. Sunday the students gathered to attend the Beale Street Parade in which they were judged and ranked 1st place again in a tie with another high school band and 2nd in their division, Class 2A. Band director and coordinator of the trip, Nicole Conte, spoke on the series of fortunate events.
“I am so proud of our students for the way they represented our school and our state. It was an awesome experience and our Warrior Band shined,” said Conte.
With next year now to look forward to, this victory for the Marching Warrior Brigade has brought in nothing short of good news for the New Year.
