LUTZ- Last night’s final regular season game for the Steinbrenner Lady Warriors was a special victory over the Strawberry Crest Chargers.
At 15 minutes in, the only goal of the game was claimed by senior forward Maggie Bitter. There were several opportunities to score for either team, but it came to be a back and forth struggle.
Strawberry Crest (4-7, 2-4) had a strong defense, and their goalie in particular made some good blocks, but their offense did little to phase Steinbrenner sophomore goalie, Korina Williams. Steinbrenner (6-7-2, 3-3) gave a good game, getting close numerous times to scoring another goal in the second half.
This final game of the regular season served as senior night for the five Lady Warriors who won’t be returning next year.
“I’ve looked forward to this night all season,” said senior captain Amanda Clifford. “It was awesome winning the game too. It shows our effort.”
A number of fans were in attendance to cheer the team on, with a group of four seniors painting “Remi” on their chests, led by her boyfriend Chris Podlin cheering her on before the end of the first half.
“I thought it was funny and embarrassing,” said senior marking back Remi Brantley. “It just goes to show how much school spirit we have.”
Coach Sue Peet looks ahead to the upcoming district matches, with a very simple plan of attack.
“We take these next games one at at time, to work our way to the state playoffs. It’s do or die now!”
The team’s next game is a district match against the Alonso Ravens this Saturday at 3 p.m. at Steinbrenner.
