LUTZ – Survivors, caregivers and supporters of the ongoing fight to end cancer came together at Steinbrenner May 18, for the school’s third-annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life event.
Members of the school’s extra-curricular clubs and organizations set up tents along side the track, selling anything from tacos to t-shirts, with all collected funds going towards cancer research.
“There was great spirit and enthusiasm for Relay this year,” said senior attendee Chase Funk. “It’s great that so many people can come together to support such an important cause.”
Highlighting the 18-hour event was a dinner reception, multiple games and an luminaria ceremony for those affected by the disease.
During the luminaria, the lights atop Steinbrenner Memorial Coliseum were turned off and hundreds candles were lit in support of survivors and memory of those passed away.
