Sophomore Taylor Thigpen finished with six points for the Warriors.

RIVERVIEW – The Steinbrenner girls basketball team earned its fifteenth win of the season on Jan. 13, tying its program  record with a 63-41 lashing of Spoto.

The Warriors (15-2) would not be deterred by a Spartan team that had to forefit its first half of the season, due to lack of players on the varsity roster.

Junior guard Bailey Hooker continued her dominance with 21 points to stay atop the county lead with an average of 21.1 points per game. Freshman center Rachel Briere, who was out most of the week at practice with a left knee injury, finished second with eight points of her own off the bench.

Defensively, Briere and junior Jessica Weatherman finished with five total rebounds and senior center Rebecca Cohen had four.

The Warriors will come back home on Wednesday Jan. 18 to face district foe Chamberlain, before traveling to third seeded Freedom on Friday Jan. 20 for the Class 7A-District 9 regular season decider.
