Eva Philpot is the new newspaper adviser. She also teaches English II Honors, AP Seminar, and Journalism I. She took over the position from Mrs. Crosby, who left to take a job outside of the field of teaching.
Philpot started teaching during the 2005-2006 school year and she started her position at Steinbrenner October 18, 2021. Philpot had taken a break from teaching during the height of the Pandemic while most kids were doing remote learning.
“I knew growing up that I wanted to work with kids either in a coaching capacity or as a teacher,” said Philpot. “I worked with kids at my church so when I went to college, I knew that I would be a teacher and that I wanted to go in the English direction.”
Her road to Steinbrenner was unexpected, but Philpot took it in stride.
“I have some colleagues that work at Steinbrenner. They reached out and told me about the school and what the potential schedule would be, and I was really excited to hear more. I met with the staff on campus, and everyone was so welcoming and awesome, and I just knew that it would be a good home for me,” Mrs. Philpot said.
Philpot’s experience so far has been an adjustment back to in person teaching, but pleasant, nonetheless.
“The students have all been very receptive and warm, and I already feel like it’s the right place for me. It’s been really cool getting to know my colleagues and students.”
Philpot values connecting with her students and plans to do so at Steinbrenner.
“I have always aimed to create a family in the classroom. I aim to leave a lasting impression on my students of somebody that really cared and was here to help them move forward and make advances, not just academically, but as people. I still talk to a lot of my former students, and it’s been really amazing, seeing them grow up with families of their own, still reaching out to me. I just love making those types of connections,” Philpot included.
Mrs. Philpot is excited to be a Warrior, and Steinbrenner is very fortunate to have her joining the team.
