For as long as she can remember, senior Maggie Losier has loved to sing and music has always played a large role in her life..
“My mom tells this story about how I was singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by the time I was 18 months old, and jokes that I was basically singing before I was talking,” said Losier.
Losier has been part of a variety of choral groups, including her church choir, groups in her schools from when she lived in Kansas, and is in her third year singing for Steinbrenner’s chorus. Not only has she been part of Steinbrenner’s Chamber Choir, High Profile, and Entourage, but this year she has taken on the role of Vice President for the program.
“I had so many ideas at the beginning of the year and it has been exciting getting to decide which of those we put into action. Mr. Poole has been really open to letting leadership test out ideas so it has been really cool getting to feel like we made a difference in the program this year.”
In January, Losier released her first EP titled “Searching,” and describes her journey over the last few years of trying to find herself.
“Initially I was just going to call the EP ‘Lost,’ because that’s one of the titles of the songs, and then when I looked back at all of the songs, I realized that the whole period where I was writing them I felt like I was looking for something, mostly looking for myself. I also wanted the title to be hopeful, since I don’t think I’m lost anymore.”
Losier was heavily influenced by Dodie Clark, as well as more classic artists like Billy Joel for the sound she wanted for her EP. Her music features her playing ukulele, and all of the lyrics were written by her over the last few years. The lyrics were inspired by her own experiences and covey the journey that she has gone through in finding herself.
At some point in the future, Losier hopes to release more original music, and wants to continue to share her musical talents not only in her remaining time at Steinbrenner, but for the rest of her life.
