Tampa- Steinbrenner (21-3) came out of the gate strong and fast against 7A district 7 runner-ups Plant City (18-10), and did not look back, rolling to a comfortable straight set victory at home.
“We just really wanted to fast forward through this as much as possible to see what the future is about,” said coach Laura Stegenga.
Steinbrenner took the first set 25-11, then the second set by the same score, within the first hour of play. Senior Rachel Mathison (19 kills) and junior Avery Bradshaw (8 kills) set the tone early, both of whom are returning starters from last year’s regional finals team.
In the third set, Plant City’s defense tightened up according to Stegenga, and pushed the Lady Warriors to the brink.
“The girls did let it go a little bit early,” said Stegenga, “but we were able to make the corrections.”
Steinbrenner advances to the regional semifinal, where they will face undefeated Durant (27-0), Tuesday November 5th.
